Our farmers have cultivated coffee using sustainable, traditional methods for generations. We’re not adapting to sustainability trends — we’ve always been here.
Shade-Grown
Our coffee grows beneath native canopy trees, preserving forest cover and providing habitat for birds, insects, and wildlife. Shade cultivation also produces denser, more flavorful beans with higher sugar content, naturally improving taste while protecting the ecosystem.
Chemical-Free
No synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers touch our coffee. Our farmers use organic compost, natural pest management, and companion planting techniques that have sustained healthy crops for generations without degrading the soil.
Water Conservation
Our washed-process beans use responsibly managed water from mountain springs. Wastewater is treated through natural filtration before returning to the environment. Natural-process beans require no water at all, as they’re sun-dried whole.
Biodiversity
Our shade-grown approach maintains Pignon’s ecological diversity. Coffee farms function as agroforestry systems that support pollinators, prevent erosion, and maintain soil health. A thriving ecosystem produces better coffee — sustainability and quality go hand in hand.
Waste Reduction
Coffee cherry pulp is composted and returned to the soil as organic fertilizer, creating a closed-loop system. Our packaging uses recyclable materials, and we’re continually working to reduce waste across our supply chain.
Community Sustainability
Environmental sustainability means nothing without social sustainability. We pay fair prices, invest in farmer training, support healthcare, and build economic systems that allow Pignon to thrive independently. A sustainable community stewards a sustainable environment.
